Aconcagua/Patagonia plans take shape.
Over the past few weeks I’ve been busy with birthdays, Thanksgiving and the first snows in the Sierra. Last weekend I got out for four days of backcountry skiing… all in November! Here’s my buddy Rich getting his first turns of the season.
Backcountry skiing is great training for Aconcagua, so I’m giving myself a break from the logistics behind a computer and on the phone, and taking to the hills.
Before I took off to the Sierra last week, I received an unexpected email from Conservacion Patagonica that changed the course of the trip. I’ve been accepted into their volunteer program and will now be spending 2-3 weeks in Southern Chile, helping to create Patagonia National Park! The future park is just on the northern end of the northern patagonian icecap. Maybe I’ll ski out on that one too.
I had no clue that this opportunity would present itself, but so goes travel.
So for now, the loose itinerary and my to-do list for January-March is as follows:
-Help create Patagonia National Park
-Ski the Southern Patagonian Icecap
-Explore southern Patagonia with my girlfriend
-Eat Argentine Beef
-Drink Argentine Wine
That’s a lot. Better get back to those logistics…
